Since the very beginning, the International Workshop on Lung Health has been strongly committed to the new generation of clinicians and researchers, by developing strategies to support, encourage and give them greater visibility. Clicking on the buttons takes you to the pages dedicated to the single initiatives.

THE CONCEPT

Two young researchers / clinicians, selected by a strict process, will have the opportunity to

  • Present a 15-minute speech at the beginning of the Congress during the “Rising Star” session scheduled on Thursday, January 15nd, 2026 in front of the international audience of about 200 specialists;
  • Receive the personal feedback of the Presidents and Chairmen of the congress who will provide useful advice for the development of the winners’ career as researchers and international congress speakers;
  • Be hosted by the congress that will waive registration fee and take care of travel and accommodation costs.

COMPULSORY CRITERIA

The main selecting criteria will be the relevancy and scientific value of the abstract presented, evaluated by the Organizing and Scientific Committee of the conference. The choice will be made at the Committee discretion.

  • Abstracts should be related to the topics of the congress.
  • The candidate should be the first author of the abstract.
  • The abstract should be original.
  • The abstract should be presented in English.
  • The candidate should not have been included in the faculty of a previous international congress.

PRIORITY CRITERIA

  • Age: Priority to researchers / clinicians under 42
  • Provenience: priority for researchers / clinicians working in low–income countries – with limited access to funds.

HOW TO SUBMIT YOUR APPLICATION

In order to participate in the selection process, please present before the 7th November 2025 the following documents:

  • Full academic curriculum including publications and / or poster presentations made in the past
  • Complete abstract of the original work you would like to present during the congress.

Abstracts can be submitted exclusively online via the congress website.

ACCEPTANCE

Notifications to submitters will be sent by the beginning December 2025.
Kindly note that if your Rising Star application is not accepted, it may still be selected for a poster presentation and may compete for the poster prize.

THE CONCEPT

Present a 10 minutes speech during the “Oral Communication session” scheduled on Saturday, January 17th, 2026 in front of the international audience of about 200 specialists.

 Four accepted oral communication presenters will have the opportunity to:

  • Receive personal feedback from the congress Presidents and Chairmen.
  • Enter the Awards for BestOral Communication

Benefits for winning presenters include: 

  • Abstracts published on the Official Workshop book of abstracts 
  • Presenter’s name, profile, abstract and poster published on the congress website 
  • Presenter’s name and title of the abstract published on the post–congress newsletter distributed to more than 8,000 European Professionals in Respiratory Medicine 
  • Free registration to the 14thInternational Workshop on Lung Health

COMPULSORY CRITERIA

Authors presenting an oral communication should be registered participants.

THE CONCEPT

Accepted poster presenters will have the opportunity to:

  • Present their work orally during the strolling poster session scheduled on Friday, January 16th, 2026
  • Receive personal feedback from the congress Presidents and Chairmen
  • Have their abstract published in the Abstract Book
  • Compete for the Best Poster Presentation Awards that will grant to the winning presenters the following benefits:
    • Abstracts published on the Official Workshop book of abstract
    • Presenter’s name, profile, abstract and poster published on the congress website
    • Presenter’s name and title of the abstract published on the post–congress newsletter distributed to more than 8,000 European Professionals in Respiratory Medicine
    • Free registration to the 14th International Workshop on Lung Health


The winners will be chosen during the congress and announced in the last session of the conference on Saturday, January 17th.

HOW TO SUBMIT YOUR APPLICATION

In order to participate in the selection process, please submit before the 17th November 2025 the complete abstract of the original work you would like to present during the congress, exclusively online via the congress website.

 
ACCEPTANCE

Notifications to submitters will be sent by the beginning December 2025.

Authors presenting a poster during the oral poster session should be registered participants. (Posters will not be displayed from unregistered authors).

INTRODUCTION

Since the 3rd International Workshop on Lung Health, in 2017 the congress has offered the opportunity to 10 – 12 early career clinicians and researchers to attend, during the event, a side “Mentoring Programme” dedicated specifically to help younger professionals to boosts their career.

The Mentoring Programme has been delivered by successful and still young researchers and clinicians personally accompanying the participants in discovering what are the tricks to know and to learn to succeed in an international environment.

Every year the programme is slightly different adapting also to the background of the participants.

The program will cover topics such as how to identify and seize opportunities, how to avoid or overcome obstacles, how to successfully manage relationships, how to move forward with the sometimes very limited resources you have to start, how to deal with the challenges of work-life balance in different national and organizational environments, how to stand out in the competitive local and foreign landscapes, etc.

In 2026, looking forward to meeting the IWLH Family in Budapest, the FUHEL Programme will explore once again the Research Clinical Trail World, giving the opportunity to participants to

  • Propose research and clinical trials ideas to the mentors
  • Explore the development process for clinical and research trials
  • Debate and dialogue with mentors and colleagues about trials under all the different aspects, phases and team working steps
  • Attend working session to develop a “clinical/research trial start up”

The Programme will take place in the Workshop Venue from January 15th to January 17th, 2026.
The FuHeL Participants will benefit of a dedicated working room, reserved to the Programme, where they can work with the mentors.

PARTICIPANTS PROFILE

The Future Leaders’ Mentoring Programme is open to up 10 Residents / PhD students under 42 in Respiratory Medicine from different European Universities and Hospitals.

  • All these documents and details must be sent throughout the online procedure

AIMS OF THE PROGRAMME

The 2026 Edition of the Future Leaders Mentoring Programme will see the further development of the “FuHeL (Future Health Leader of the Lungs) Mentoring Programme, a scientific “hub” for the Young Researchers and clinicians of the worldwide respiratory medicine, which aim to spend 3 days working with the Mentors, which will give important indications about how to approach to clinical, observational and methanalysis scientific publications.”

The mentors of the programme require to each candidate to have a specific interest in clinical and scientific research. During the 3 Workshop Days the Programme will give to participants tools, tips and guidelines about how explore clinical, observational and methanalysis publications.
